Glazed Windows Ensuring an Optimum Indoor-Outdoor Connection: Kay House

Kay House is a modern 3,895 square foot residence designed by studio Maria Gigney Architects and located in Tasmania, Australia. The project consisted of a remodel of an existing brick cottage located on the banks of Hobart’s Derwent Rive. The architects also designed an extension for the main house. Showcasing an optimum indoor-outdoor connection, the residence features floor to ceiling glazed windows which gives it a unique contemporary appearance. According to the project team, “ this airy pavilion of steel and glass captures seemingly endless vistas of water and sky, whilst maintaining a humble and unassuming street entry. The lap pool is pivotal to the entire design, and in careful composition of the pool atrium glazing and elegant steel structure, a dramatic play of volume and light is created. Passive solar principles were engaged to reduce energy consumption in a structure mostly glazed .” Do you find the design of this residence appealing or too privacy invading?
