Sun-Flooded Sustainable Dream Home in the Netherlands: Villa 4.0
Surrounded by an exceptional landscape, Villa 4.0 seems to be the modern equivalent of a dream home. Each and every detail constructs an amazing single family residence that was transformed from a 1967 bungalow that was renovated once before, in 1972. Re-designed by Amsterdam-based studio Dick van Gameren Architecten , the Netherlands villa expresses a transitional charm from a 1967 bungalow architecture to a contemporary villa inhabited by a young family. Sustainability is the word that best characterizes the design and daily use of the house. The architects kept most of the old building intact and constructed a low maintenance residence: “ Key points of departure were maximum reuse of built elements and materials already on site and the use of sturdy and proven techniques to achieve the lowest possible energy consumption. ” Both the renovated and the new walls were insulated and the old wood window frames have been replaced with new aluminum – framed insulated glass walls. Skylights and retractable windows further illuminate the interiors and compose a fascinating atmosphere once accompanied by the vividly colored furniture. Exceptional dream home, isn’t it?
