Sophisticated Single Storey Home Situated Among Pine Trees

Located in Mossvagen, Ljunghusen, Sweden, the single storey residence was designed by architect Johan Sundberg . His architectural design skills created a fantastic house in the middle of Ljungskogen forest. Situated among young pine trees, the Bergman Werntoft House sparkles in the night and blends with the surroundings during daytime, creating a barrier of modern architectural elements in the middle of nature. The only views of the house are created by the multitude of pine trees, but the exceptional L-shaped design is protected from indiscreet eyes. Inspired by the Danish atrium house typology from the 60s and 70s, the residence’s facade features brick walls on the outer walls and glazed inner walls: “ The inner and outer walls of the building are folded and doors and windows move in and out of alignment along the outer walls. This helps define spaces and views, frames the nature outside and creates an inner life “. The inner courtyard, delimitated by a wooden deck connects the interior space to the exterior in a successful attempt to bring nature inside. Besides, the residence’s glazing and lightwells create light corridors that flood the rooms with sunlight. While the northern wing of the house features private areas like bedrooms and bathrooms, the eastern wing contains the living areas. The simple yet sophisticated architecture transformed the flat ground with sandy earth into a wonderful modern family residence.
