Transparency, Reflection, Ecology and Security: DD California Home

DD Southern California Home was designed by Peggy Dupuis , interior designer, Dale Naegle, Architect and her husband, a civil engineer and international builder. Here is the information Peggy sent us:  “The property, its ocean view, its north west orientation and setting sun provided  plenty of inspiration. The two story contemporary home offers an amazing view from each room, along with a spectacular rooftop terrace, where on a clear day you can actually view the coastline of Mexico. TRANSPARENCY and REFLECTION is omnipresent due to its surrounding large glass windows, glass doors, a void space in the center of the house, well-planned natural and articial lighting and the use of reflective materials throughout. It’s interior, with its spectacular curves, contrast with the very geometric external view.  The decoration and its furnitures are refined, using a blackened white, grey, graphite, black, stainless steel along with the use of solid oak wood furnitures, entry door and parquet floor. One of the centerpieces of this house is the 7 meter curved wall with decorative sand base red paint, done by Peggy herself, which added warmth to this house. The red paint around the main door entrance, adds a note of welcome for the guests. The home was designed for a maximum SECURITY in case of sismique incident or landslide.  In addition to the strict city building codes, her husband required the foundation be realised using a structural slab with deepened footing extending into bedrock. This along with structural steel moment frame, common in commercial design and custom home’s with large areas of glass exteriors. Particularly sensitive to ECOLOGICAL constraint, Peggy Dupuis designed the interior for low energy consumption, ecological materials and comfort.”
