The Perforated House : A Statement of Individuality in Australia

An outstanding facade stands between this home and the rest of the world. This Australian residence by Kavellaris Urban Design (KUD) is the living proof that architecture is a  dynamic area, that evolves together with good ideas and goes beyond the known barriers. The most expensive feature of this home is the front facade – dominated by perforated steel screens. From inside, the view is not obstructed and on the outside it looks  different from any other home. Inside, the open air living space allows the sun to warm up the north side while the south side, which is also the front of the house, allows a view of the neighbourhood. The built space is an area of 5.5×14.4m between two Victorian houses, in Brunswick, Victoria.

The second floor is entirely covered by bluestone flooring. Even the backside of the home, where the kids can enjoy sunshine in a small courtyard, is covered with bluestone, but also has a big, colourful mural to break the monotony. The first floor is actually where the 2 bedrooms and bathrooms are situated, unlike the usual house arranjament. The whole house design is a statement: “ To us, this project is a platform to establish a critical dialogue within our built environment; to raise questions as much as to find solutions.(…)the external facade could be experienced internally and is also a multi functional device that constantly transforms the built form from solid to void, from private to public, from opaque to translucent.

Here you can see a video presentation of the beautiful Perforate House:
